Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente (about 7-8 minutes). Drain well.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the flour until smooth (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until thickened (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted.
  4. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, then transfer to a greased baking dish.
  5. Mix panko breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle on top of the macaroni mixture.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top.
