- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted; margarine or coconut oil can be used)
- 2 large eggs (egg replacers can work for vegan versions)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or use vanilla bean paste for a bolder flavor)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (optional, for dusting before serving)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk with granulated sugar and sprinkle in active dry yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Blend in flour, salt, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add melted butter until a soft dough forms.
- Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, roll it into a rectangle, brush with butter, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, roll tightly, and slice into 12 pieces.
- Arrange prepared pieces in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush tops with melted butter while warm. Cool slightly before serving.
- Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
