  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or quinoa for serving
  • Chopped cucumber
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Kalamata olives, pitted and halved
  • Feta cheese, crumbled
  • Fresh dill or parsley, for garnish
  • Tzatziki sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, parsley, mint, 1 teaspoon oregano, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, working in batches if necessary. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, broth, and 1 teaspoon sugar to the skillet. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon oregano. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Return the browned meatballs to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. To assemble the Irresistible Greek Meatball Bowls, place a serving of cooked rice or quinoa in each bowl.
  7. Top with several Greek meatballs and a generous amount of tomato sauce.
  8. Add chopped cucumber, diced tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and crumbled feta cheese.
  9. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce and garnish with fresh dill or parsley.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use lean ground turkey or chicken.
  • You can add chopped bell peppers or zucchini to the sauce for extra vegetables.
  • If you don’t have fresh herbs, you can use dried herbs, but reduce the amount slightly.
  • This Irresistible Greek Meatball Bowl recipe can be prepped ahead of time. The meatballs and sauce can be made a day in advance and reheated.
