Description

Homemade garlic knots that are fluffy, buttery, and irresistibly delicious, perfect for snacks or alongside pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups White Bread Flour
  • 1 packet Dried Yeast
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Butter (melted)
  • 1 1/2 cups Warm Water
  • 3 cloves Garlic (grated or minced)
  • 1/4 cup Parsley
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 28 ounces Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano/Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon White Wine Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (for marinara)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the white bread flour, dried yeast, sugar, and salt. Then, mix in the melted butter and warm water until a rough dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes until soft and pliable.
  3. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean towel. Let it rise for 1.5 to 2 hours until it doubles in size.
  4. Once risen, turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface, shape it into an 18-inch rectangle, cut into 18 strips, roll into logs and tie into knots.
  5. Place the shaped knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment and let them rest for 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat, stir in grated garlic, and brush half onto the knots before baking.
  7. Gently brush the knots with garlic butter and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While knots bake, simmer crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, white wine vinegar, and sugar in a saucepan.
  9. Once baked, brush the knots with remaining garlic butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and parsley before serving with marinara sauce.

Notes

  • Fresh yeast can be used if adjusted.
  • Honey or agave syrup can replace sugar.
  • For dairy-free version, use olive oil instead of butter.
  • Feel free to omit parsley if not available.
  • Nutritional yeast can substitute for Parmesan cheese.
  • Adjust sugar in marinara to taste.
