Irresistible French Hot Chocolate (Chocolat Chaud)
Ingredients

- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 4 oz (115 g) dark chocolate, chopped (60–70% cocoa preferred)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp instant coffee or espresso powder (optional)
- Sugar, to taste (optional)
- Pinch of sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Add milk and cream to a medium saucepan over low to medium heat. Warm until steaming—do not boil.
- Add chopped chocolate and whisk continuously until fully melted, smooth, and glossy.
- Stir in vanilla and espresso powder (if using). Taste and add sugar if desired.
- Pour into 2 small mugs. Serve immediately (this is intentionally rich—smaller cups are ideal).
