Description

California Crunch Roll Sushi is a delightful homemade sushi experience that combines creamy avocado, crunchy cucumber, and a crispy topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Sushi Rice
  • 2 sheets Nori Sheets
  • 8 oz Imitation Crab (or Real Crab)
  • 1 piece Avocado
  • 1 piece Cucumber
  • 2 tbsp Spicy Mayo
  • 2 tbsp Eel Sauce
  • ¼ cup Crunchy Topping

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 cup of sushi rice until the water runs clear. Cook the rice with 1¼ cups of water until tender. Fold in a mixture of 2 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 tbsp sugar, and ½ tsp salt into the warm rice and let it cool completely.
  2. Wrap your bamboo sushi mat in plastic wrap for cleanliness. Prepare a small bowl of vinegar-water to prevent sticking while rolling.
  3. Place a sheet of nori on the sushi mat, shiny side down. Spread cooled rice evenly, leaving a ½ inch gap at the top. Flip the nori so rice side faces down. Layer fillings in the center.
  4. Firmly grasp the mat edge and roll tightly away from you, tucking fillings in. Seal the edge with water to stick.
  5. Brush the roll lightly with spicy mayo or eel sauce, then sprinkle on crunchy topping and press down gently.
  6. Slice the roll into 8 pieces with a sharp, damp knife. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.

Notes

  • Can replace sushi rice with brown rice for a healthier option.
  • Use marinated tofu for a vegan option.
  • Adjust spicy mayo to taste.
  • Substitute eel sauce with soy sauce if preferred.
